Project Manager plays a major role in every successful project as well as its failure. Qatar, as a developing country certainly needs competent project professionals who will manage numerous projects in various sectors and industries in which Averroes Business Advisory & Services fully understand this fact. Consequently, on October 29, 2014 Averroes held a Workshop Training for the management team of one of the most important government agencies in Qatar, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) which handles huge local projects.
The workshop topic is about “When & Why Do Projects Fail” held in Al Nakheel Tower, West Bay, Doha Qatar. The said workshop was presided by Averroes’ internationally renowned Project Management Consultant Mr. Bart Benink who holds various project management accreditations. Averroes main objective of organizing such event is to teach and cement in project professionals the skills and knowledge they need to ensure projects do not fail.
Several main reasons why projects fail were highlighted during the workshop discussion such as poor communication, unsupported project culture, over allocation of resources, incompetent manager, poor team planning, lack of proper monitoring and controlling, behind in the competition, etc. Mr. Bernink added that a project is a failure when it was not able to deliver what is required and did not meet the expectations sought. Hence, in order to succeed, a project must deliver to cost, quality and must meet the required deadline as well as the delivery of the benefits presented in the business case.
